NEXCO East Japan Appoints Mikio Yoshioka as New President: “I Will Tackle Challenges Based on the Front Lines, Actual Conditions, and Reality”

Posted on June 30, 2026 by Editor in Chief

On June 25, NEXCO East Japan held a press conference featuring Mikio Yoshioka, who had recently been appointed as the company’s new President and CEO.

Mr. Yoshioka is a native of Kanagawa Prefecture. He graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo in 1986 and joined the Ministry of Construction (later the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) that same year. He subsequently held positions including Director-General of the Road Bureau, Chief Engineer, and Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

At the press conference, Mr. Yoshioka touched on his long career in land, infrastructure, transport, and tourism administration, stating, “I have come to realize that expressways are vital infrastructure that supports economic and regional development, and I am very pleased to have the opportunity to work alongside the employees of the NEXCO East Japan Group, who are dedicated to providing safe and comfortable services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”

Moving forward, guided by our management philosophy of contributing to the development of local communities by maximizing the benefits of the expressway, we intend to “cherish what remains constant while embracing new ideas that align with the times,” and in doing so, we will not lose sight of “the mindset of tackling challenges by engaging with the actual situation on the ground and addressing them based on reality.”
