New vehicles for car camping that are making waves at the Tokyo Outdoor Show 2026. Spotlight on genuine accessories for Toyota-affiliated complete cars, the Mazda CX-5, and the Suzuki Hustler [Vehicles]

Exhibits by Automakers: Toyota, Mazda, and Suzuki The number of people enjoying road trips that make use of RV parks and auto campsites is increasing year by year, and automakers are taking a much more proactive approach to meet these needs. At this event, automakers Mazda and Suzuki exhibited new models customized with an outdoor theme, and “Modellista,” the brand of Toyota Customizing & Development—which handles Toyota vehicle customization—also displayed a car equipped for overnight stays. Furthermore, “Toyota Mobility Parts”—which handles everything from Toyota’s genuine parts and accessories to retail and logistics—displayed a demo car equipped with an original bed kit for sleeping in the car. Rather than simply displaying vehicles, the exhibition took a proposal-based approach, showcasing ways to enjoy car camping and road trips.

Suzuki Showcases a Hustler Model Designed for Overnight Stays in the Car Next up is the Suzuki booth. On display were two models: the “Hustler Tough Wild” and the “Every J Limited.” The Hustler Tough Wild was set up for car camping with a sleeping bag laid out on the passenger side, while the Every J Limited was displayed to evoke a “garage lifestyle” theme. Suzuki’s popular Hustler has a strong outdoor image and can carry a lot of gear, making it a favorite among tent campers, but it hasn’t garnered much attention from car-campers. The reason was a concern that, being a passenger car, it might not provide enough sleeping space—but judging by this display, that’s simply not the case. In fact, the Hustler’s interior length—from the dashboard to the tailgate—is approximately 2.2 meters, so by arranging the seats to lie completely flat, you can unfold a standard-sized sleeping bag. In addition, the Hustler offers a wide range of genuine accessories designed for outdoor leisure. These range from roof racks for mounting trunk boxes packed with gear to car tarps that create a living space on-site, as well as curtain and tarp kits that allow you to use the area under the open tailgate as a private space. It also comes equipped with front and rear privacy shades—essential items for sleeping in the car—as well as relaxation cushions that can be used as bed mats.

Display of Vehicles Equipped for Overnight Stays in Cars, Available at Toyota Dealerships—Toyota Customizing & Development, which specializes in customizing Toyota vehicles, is showcasing complete outdoor-ready cars under the “Modellista” brand. Here, we’ll introduce vehicles from that lineup based on the popular minivans, the “Noah” and “Sienta.” First up is the “Multi-Utility (MU),” a Modellista complete car based on the Noah minivan. It comes standard with a large-capacity, two-tier luggage compartment featuring a dedicated luggage frame and luggage board, making it suitable for a wide range of scenarios—from grocery shopping to outdoor activities and transporting hobby equipment. By adding a front bed board, you can create a flat space suitable for sleeping in the vehicle. The photo shows the vehicle with the front bed board installed, which provides enough space for two adults to sleep comfortably. Furthermore, when used solo, removing the left-side bed board allows the second-row seats to be folded down while remaining in bed mode, creating a space where you can both sit comfortably and sleep with plenty of room to stretch out.
