JAL will revise the “special fuel surcharge” applicable to international flight tickets issued between July 1 and August 31.
The two-month average price of Singapore kerosene for April and May, which serves as the basis for calculation, was $178.21 per barrel. Multiplying this by the average exchange rate for the same period—158.85 yen to the dollar—yields a yen-denominated value of 28,308 yen for the Singapore kerosene market price. Consequently, the fuel surcharge applicable to tickets issued from July to August would normally be based on the 28,000 yen standard (Zone W). However, due to the effect of government subsidies under emergency measures to mitigate sudden price fluctuations in light of the situation in the Middle East, the surcharge for tickets issued in July and August has been reduced to the 25,000 yen standard (Zone T).
The previously announced fare for tickets issued in May and June (based on the current Zone Q rate of 22,000 yen) saw price increases of approximately double, with fares set at 6,500 yen for South Korea, 34,700 yen for Hawaii, and 56,000 yen for North America and Europe. However, the rates announced for tickets issued in July–August have been set even higher than those figures.
The revised fuel surcharge per passenger per one-way segment is as follows. The amount is the same for both adults and children, and the same amount applies when using JAL Mileage Bank international award tickets (infants under 2 years of age who do not occupy a seat are exempt).
