Awajiya will release the fifth installment in its Container Bento series, “JNR Container Bento: Tokyo Tonkatsu Edition,” on July 1. The price is 1,680 yen.
This product features a special container modeled after the “C6000-series container,” a freight container that was widely used during the Japan National Railways (JNR) era. In addition to completely redesigning the container’s mold, this version features slogans from that era—such as “Door-to-Door”—and the model number to enhance authenticity, while also being designed so that it can be stacked with previously released JR Freight container bento boxes for added enjoyment.
The dish features “tonkatsu”—one of Tokyo’s signature culinary traditions—as the main ingredient atop seasoned rice, garnished with kinpira made from burdock and carrots, as well as pickled turnip. Although it’s billed as the “Tokyo Edition,” a notable feature is that, reflecting Awajiya’s strong love for its local community, the accompanying sauce is Kobe Oliver’s Chūnō Sauce.
The product will be available at all Awajiya stores, the official online shop, and the in-store pickup reservation site. Reservations will open on the reservation site at 9:00 PM on June 26, ahead of the general release.
