Hotel New Akao (1993-250 Atami, Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture) has completely renovated the 12th floor of its Ocean Wing into a kids’ floor designed for guests traveling with children, and will open an all-weather kids’ park and 22 newly built kids’ rooms on July 17.
While preserving the breathtaking panoramic view of the Atami coastline and the retro Showa-era atmosphere, the hotel is designed around the “Kid’s Carnival” concept, where the entire floor is filled with the excitement of having wandered into a traveling amusement park. It features spaces where children can enjoy activities regardless of the weather, as well as spacious guest rooms. It caters to the needs of multigenerational family trips and group stays.
Kids Park is a playground spanning approximately 260 m² that was created by renovating the “Nishikimatsu and Hagoromo Rooms,” a large banquet hall with a retro Showa-era atmosphere. In addition to a multi-level play structure area featuring slides and trampolines, a digital content area where drawings on paper are projected via a projector, and a Showa-era area where visitors can experience nostalgic games from the past, the park is designed to cater to different ages and preferences with features such as a picture book area and a baby area. It is also fully equipped with stroller parking, lockers, a nursing room, and a diaper-changing room.
This facility is open to elementary school students and younger, as well as their guardians, and the admission fee is 500 yen for both adults and children. Day visitors are also welcome.
All guest rooms offer ocean views and come in four types: the spacious 52–65 m² “Kids’ Room Premier” (sleeps 7), the 28–31 m² “Kids’ Room Triple” (sleeps 3), the 22–25 m² “Kids’ Room Twin” (sleeps 2), and the 36 m² “Kids’ Room Japanese-Style” (sleeps 5).
In particular, the Kids’ Room Premier features a vibrant and colorful interior inspired by circus tents and carnivals, and is fully equipped with a wall-projection home theater.
To celebrate the grand opening, the hotel has begun offering a stay package that includes free access to the Kids Park and one night’s accommodation with two buffet meals. The package is available for three guests sharing a room in the newly built kids’ room, starting at 18,600 yen per adult. Reservations can be made on the official website and other channels.
