Universal Studios Japan will open “Souvenir Freelance Story Walk: A Journey of Remembrance,” the first limited-time attraction in collaboration with the animated TV series “Souvenir Freelance,” on May 30.
This is the park’s first-ever format of a “super-immersive walk-through attraction” that immerses guests in the story of the Freelens and their friends and allows them to experience a soothing and healing experience. The story unfolds as guests are transported into the world of Freelen’s memories through the “magic of reliving the past” found in Freelen’s grimoire.
Atsumi Tanesaki and Nobuhiko Okamoto, voice actors for the anime, appeared as special guests at the opening ceremony held the day before. They held a talk session in front of the “Himmel the Brave” statue, one of the highlights of the show.
When asked how she felt after experiencing the new attraction firsthand, Ms. Tanesaki, who plays the role of Freelen, said, “When little Fern appeared on the stage, I thought, ‘Oh, I’m going to cry! I thought, “Oh, I’m going to cry! It was hard to hold back my tears. There were so many moments like that, and my eyes, ears, and everything was happy! It was hard to hold back tears.
Okamoto-san, who plays the role of Himmel, recalled his experience, “I have experienced immersive experiences like VR before, but experiencing this new attraction, I felt like I was in the world of the story, living with the Frierens! He recalled that he was so moved by the experience, especially in the climax area where the “Himmel Statue” appeared, that he was speechless and “could only let out a sigh of admiration.
The 20-minute experience, which makes full use of dynamic lighting, sound, and a giant screen, will include a participatory performance in which guests can also manipulate magic during the show.
Other limited-edition goods on sale during the event include T-shirts with original artwork inspired by the “magic of a flower garden appearing,” and catsuits with cute flower crowns. Gourmet meat dishes, which are essential for adventures, and soda drinks with straws resembling magic wands will also be available, and the company sent a message to guests who are planning to visit, “We hope you will enjoy the event with all your senses.
