Hakuba Village launches lodging tax: 200 yen to 1,900 yen per person per night.

Posted on June 29, 2026 by Editor in Chief

On June 1, Hakuba Village began introducing a lodging tax for guests staying at lodging facilities in the village.

It was introduced to protect Hakuba Village’s blessed nature, mountain scenery, and lifestyle and culture, and to fund measures for the promotion of sustainable tourism in harmony with the lives of the village residents. Specific projects to be financed by this fund will be deliberated by the Hakuba Village Tourist Attraction Management Committee based on the basic policy for the use of the fund.

The tax is levied on guests staying at ryokan, hotels, simple lodgings, and residential accommodation facilities in Hakuba Village when the room charge per person per night is 6,000 yen or more, and is applicable to stays after June 1, even if the reservation was made before that date. Together with the prefectural lodging tax imposed by Nagano Prefecture, the tax will be collected according to the category of lodging rates per person per night.
