Blue Impulse, display flight at Kamifurano Garrison, Hokkaido this weekend. Preparation time is open to the public and live-streaming is available!

Posted on June 29, 2026 by Editor in Chief

The Kamifurano Garrison of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (4-948 Minamimachi, Kamifurano-cho, Sorachi-gun, Hokkaido) will hold a commemorative event on May 31, from 8:30 to 15:00 to celebrate its 71st anniversary.

The Blue Impulse display flight will be from 10:40 to 11:30 (reserve time from 14:00 to 14:45). The aircraft will enter Kamifurano Town from the Furano area and fly over a wide area of the town at 900-2100 m above the ground, so it can be viewed from Furano City, Nakafurano Town, and Kamifurano Town. A fan service (autograph session), which was cancelled at last year’s 70th anniversary event due to various reasons, will be held from 1:00 p.m.

Other programs include a commemorative ceremony, a review march, a tank ride, an exhibition of decorations, and a children’s plaza. Around the eat-in corner, 30 restaurants, including kitchen cars and tents, will be set up for visitors to enjoy a variety of gourmet foods, from ramen noodles to fill up their stomachs, to donuts for a snack. Open from 9:00 to 14:00 (closing when all the food is gone).

On the day before the event (30th), a preliminary display flight will be held for about 40 minutes between around 15:45 and 18:00. However, no one will be allowed to enter the Kamifurano Garrison. Flight time and content may be subject to change due to weather conditions.

In addition, for those who are too far away to visit Hokkaido (……), a live broadcast of the exhibition flight will be available in real time. The streaming time is from 10:00 a.m. on the 31st. The live streaming will be available on the “Runway Fun Gadget News” YouTube channel.

In anticipation of the large number of visitors expected on the day of the commemorative event, nine temporary parking lots with 1,030 vehicles will be opened in Kamifurano Town. Free shuttle buses will also be available between the parking lots and the event site. Please refer to the Kamifurano Town’s information page for the locations and routes.

In order to prevent vehicular congestion, the road to the Hinode Park Observatory will be closed to vehicular traffic from 16:30 on May 29 to 15:00 on May 31. No vehicles or motorcycles will be allowed during this period.
