ANA will limit the dimensions of “personal effects” in carry-on baggage on flights operated by the ANA Group to 40 x 30 x 20 cm or less, effective from July 1, 2012.
The new guidelines by the Regular Airlines Association, which became effective on April 1, add to the existing regulations that the size and weight of baggage “should be in accordance with each airline’s own regulations” (generally, the total of three dimensions should not exceed 115 cm, 10 kg, etc.), and that the size of personal effects “should not exceed the size of a handbag, shoulder bag, or other personal item that can be stowed under the seat in front of you. The size of personal effects, such as handbags and shoulder bags, must be within the size range that can be stowed under the seat in front of you”.
A document released by ANA on June 1 specifies that “the size of personal items should be large enough to be stored under the seat in front of you and ‘no larger than 40cm x 30cm x 20cm.
At the time of writing, there is no similar statement on the JAL website.
