Weekend Ekiben] “Yokohama Fried Rice” at Yokohama Station

Posted on June 28, 2026 by Editor in Chief

Yokohama’s Sakiyo-ken offers a wide variety of ekiben, with shiomai bento at the top of the list. Among them, it seems strange that two very similar ekiben, “Yokohama Fried Rice” and “Fried Rice Bento,” have become established as standard products. This time, we will introduce one of these brotherly ekiben, “Yokohama Fried Rice” from Sakiyo-ken.

The fried rice is the star of the show. It tastes like ordinary fried rice with no particular peculiarities, and the brightly colored green peas and shrimp give it a nice look. Although it is not a cup noodle, the presence of the brightly colored shrimp is very effective. The shrimp is very tasty and has a nice texture, and its presence is a nice accent to the flavor.

The shioumai and bamboo shoots stew are a nice addition, as is typical of Saki Yoken. The chicken with chili sauce is more substantial than it looks, and is very satisfying.

The “Yokohama Fried Rice” has been sold for more than half a century since its appearance, and its popularity can be seen in the fact that the same package design is also used for the “Home Ekiben Series Fried Rice Bento” frozen food. 890 yen is second only to “Inari Sushi” among the many Sakiyo-ken ekiben products. But it is also very popular because of its Sakiyo-ken style and the fact that you can eat it. The price of 890 yen is second only to “Inari Sushi” among Sakiyoken’s ekiben, but the taste and satisfaction are more than enough to satisfy the taste buds.

As I was writing this, I was informed that the shrimp on the fried rice will be removed and the chicken chili sauce will be replaced with a small shrimp chili sauce, effective June 1. The price will remain the same.
