JICA Vice President Miyazaki met with World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Director-General Celeste Sauro at JICA headquarters on May 15.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vice President Miyazaki welcomed Mr. Saulo’s visit to JICA for the first time since 2023. He also explained JICA’s business strategy in the field of disaster management and its efforts in disaster prevention and meteorology, and expressed his desire to continue cooperation in this field in the future.
In response, Director General Sauro stated that during his previous visit, he was involved in SATREPS (the International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Program for Responding to Global Issues) with JICA as Director General of the National Meteorological Service of Argentina, and that he was looking forward to exchanging views with JICA this time from the WMO’s perspective.
They also exchanged views on how WMO and JICA can support countries in strengthening their capacity in the field of meteorology, including early warning and forecasting, and promote collaboration between the two organizations.
