Tama Urban Monorail announced that it obtained the “Track First Subdivision Construction Execution Approval” for the “Kamikitadai to Hakonegasaki Extension Project” being promoted in cooperation with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government on May 22, including support columns, track girders, and station buildings.
To extend the line, multiple applications and approvals must be submitted to and obtained from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in accordance with the Track Law. So far, the project has been officially put into operation with a track project patent in May 2025 and urban planning project approval in November of the same year.
Of the procedures for starting construction (application for approval of execution of divisional construction), the “first round” mainly for civil engineering, and a separate application is required for the “second round” mainly for electrical engineering.
The line will extend 7.0 km on double track, with seven stations to be serviced. The line will extend from Kamikitadai Station in Higashiyamato City through Musashimurayama City to near Hakonegasaki Station in Mizuho Town. The project is targeted to open in the mid-2030s.
In addition to the Kamikitadai-Hakonegasaki route, the Tama Urban Monorail is considering extending the line toward Machida, and Machida City is in the process of acquiring land for urban planning roads 3, 3, and 36 (approximately 1 km from near Machida Metropolitan High School to near Serigaya Park) in order to secure space for introduction.
