Skymark Airlines has begun a trial of a special refund policy that waives cancellation fees for children aged 0 to 6 due to sudden illness. The period is from May 20 to March 31, 2027.
According to the company, many users with small children have voiced concerns that they hesitate to make reservations when considering cancellation fees in case of sudden fever. In response to these requests and feedback from employees raising children within the company, the decision was made to conduct this trial with the aim of creating an environment where families can make airline ticket reservations with peace of mind, reducing the emotional and financial burden on them.
Eligible passengers are children between the ages of 0 and 6 years old as of the scheduled boarding date. If you cancel your trip due to sudden fever, etc., you can get a full refund by submitting a “receipt from a hospital” or “medical statement” that you received within 3 days before or after the scheduled departure date. There is no need to prepare a medical certificate, which is often costly to issue at medical institutions. Any injury or illness, including seasonal colds and category 5 infectious diseases such as influenza and new coronavirus, is covered by the special measures.
In addition, if both the child and the accompanying person cancel their reservations at the same time, the accompanying person’s refund fee will also be waived in its entirety. However, refunds for medical treatment due to injury or illness of the accompanying person only are not eligible for this special measure. Group airline tickets purchased through travel agencies for group travel of five or more persons are also exempt. This special measure only applies to refunds, not to changes in reservations.
The procedure must be requested prior to departure, and is available via “Chat Support” on the Skymark official website (available from 8:00 to 20:30), by phone or fax to the Skymark Reservation Center (available from 8:00 to 20:30), or at Skymark counters at each airport. Refund requests must be made within 10 days of the scheduled departure date.
Based on the results of use during the trial period and feedback from users, the company plans to consider making this system permanent by January 2027.
