Offering carefully selected ethical coffee in a minimalist space Ogawa Coffee is a long-established roastery established in Kyoto in 1952. The company conducts consistent quality control from bean selection to roasting and brewing, and operates a total of 13 stores in Kyoto, Shiga, Tokyo, and Boston, U.S.A. The Shimizu store was opened under the concept of “a base for experiencing life and culture in the community. The opening of the Shimizu store was triggered by an offer from MUJI BASE, which has as its concept “a base for experiencing life and culture in the community. The interior was designed by Kazuya Sasaki, representative of SMALLCLONE, as was the case with the Sakaimachi Nishiki store, and the space is minimalist with no unnecessary decorations. The coffee beans offered are limited to “GRANCA,” an ethical coffee that takes the global environment and producers into consideration. The shop offers a total of eight carefully selected varieties, ranging from dark and medium blends to single-origin coffees. The brewing method is also carefully selected, employing “nerd drip” brewing, which brings out the true character of the coffee and allows customers to enjoy the rich, mild flavor of old-fashioned coffee shops. For the coming season, the company recommends the “Espresso Tonic,” a refreshing drink made with the house blend “Medium.
