Kajima Corporation unveils the first 1/100 scale model of KAJIMA TREE, the symbolic tower of the Expo. Reused wood from the Expo and the large roof ring.

Posted on June 28, 2026 by Editor in Chief

Kajima Corporation unveiled the first 1/100 scale model of KAJIMA TREE, a giant wooden tower to be exhibited at the Horticulture Expo, at the Non-Housing Wooden Architecture Fair 2026 held at Tokyo Big Sight on May 13, 2012.

KAJIMA TREE will be constructed by the company as the symbolic tower of GREEN x EXPO 2027 (2027 International Gardening Exposition) to be held in Yokohama City from March 19 to September 26, 2027. The main material will be reused wood from the “Great Roof Ring” of Expo ’70 Osaka/Kansai.

The dismantled timbers are currently stored and managed in Tatebayashi City, Gunma Prefecture, and will be incorporated as new structural materials after strength tests and repair techniques are conducted. The tower will be constructed using the “Kumiki Seismic Response Control System,” which combines multiple timbers and steel dampers.

Other detailed designs and the latest information will be released on a special website as they become available.
