Fujikyu Group’s Tokunitoge will introduce a new mobility “slope car” at Tokunitoge (Kuwabara, Hakonan-cho, Tagata-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture), a scenic spot located between Hakone and Atami, in the summer of 2027.
It will replace the current cable car that connects the Mori no Mori Station at the foot of the mountain to the Panorama Terrace at the summit, and will be reborn as a “moving observatory” where visitors can enjoy a spectacular 360-degree view.
The ship was designed by Yasuyuki Kawanishi of Ichibansen, who also designed the “Hakone Yusen Daichakai,” a sightseeing boat on Lake Ashi (in service from December 2025), and the “Hatsushima Resort Line Kinnami Ginnami,” a high-speed boat between Atami and Hatsushima (in service from July 2025). The decagonal faceted form, named after the “Tokoku” (ten countries), is surrounded by large glass panels that reach from floor to ceiling.
The current cable car, which has been in operation for about 70 years, will cease operation with the renewal of its equipment.
