DJI JAPAN released the Osmo Mobile 8P gimbal for smartphones on May 7. Prices are 18,480 yen for the Standard Combo, 25,080 yen for the Advanced Tracking Combo, and 32,780 yen for the Creator Combo.
The most unique feature is that the control part can be removed as a detachable remote control “Osmo FrameTap”. The screen and joystick on the remote control allow users to check and adjust the angle of view from a distance.
The 3-axis gimbal is DJI’s eighth-generation stabilization mechanism. It can rotate 360 degrees horizontally without restrictions, allowing dynamic images to be captured in a single cut. By tilting the pan axis forward, it can also be used to shoot from the perspective of children and pets.
The advanced ActiveTrack 8.0 tracking function automatically tracks the subject in crowded or moving scenes to support stable shooting.
The lightweight 386g body incorporates a tripod with a wider leg opening for greater stability and a 215mm extension rod. It has a battery life of up to 10 hours and can also charge a smartphone through the USB Type-C port. It is ideal for travel, vlogging on the go, long outdoor shoots, and live streaming.
The DJI Mimo app supports a variety of cinematic modes. Specifically, “DynamicZoom,” which creates a visual effect as if space is expanding and contracting by moving in and out; “Slow Shutter,” which creates atmosphere in night scenes and low-light scenes; “Action Shot,” which smoothly captures fast-moving subjects such as athletes and dancers; and “Widescreen Mode,” which can capture cinematic images in 2. Widescreen Mode” for capturing cinematic-like images in 35:1 format.
The “Apple DockKit” allows the iPhone to be connected directly to the Osmo Mobile 8P without going through the DJI Mimo app, and tracking can be done with the regular camera app.
