Could it be the last? Girl with a Pearl Earring” comes to Japan for the first time in 14 years, Vermeer exhibition tickets go on sale June 1 at Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka.

Posted on June 28, 2026 by Editor in Chief

The Nakanoshima Art Museum, Osaka, the Asahi Shimbun, and Asahi Broadcasting Corporation will hold the “Vermeer: Girl with a Pearl Earring” exhibition. The exhibition will run from August 21 to September 27 (open all year round), with no plans for a tour.

The centerpiece of the exhibition will be Vermeer’s masterpiece “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” which will be his first visit to Japan in 14 years since the “Mauritshuis Museum Exhibition” that attracted approximately 1.2 million visitors in Tokyo and Kobe from 2012 to 2013.

The Mauritshuis Museum in the Netherlands, which owns this work, has a policy of having visitors view the work locally, and as a rule, does not lend the work out of the museum, so this may be the last opportunity to view it in Japan.

Tickets are available by designated date and time, and cost ¥3,000 for adults, ¥1,500 for high school and university students, and ¥500 for elementary and junior high school students.

Same-day tickets will be sold at the museum’s ticket vending machines when available, based on sales up to the day before.

The Rihga Royal Hotel Osaka Vignette Collection is also offering a limited edition stay plan that includes a ticket to the exhibition, a collabo-dinner, and limited edition goods.
