On April 21, Sony Thermo Technology released the wearable thermo-device “REON POCKET PRO Plus. The “RNPK-P1P,” which includes the main unit and a dedicated neckband, is priced at around 27,500 yen. The “RNPK-P1PT,” which includes a tag-type sensor, is priced at around 29,700 yen.
REON POCKET is a “wearable cooling/warming device” that can be worn around the neck and back using a neck band to cool or warm the body through contact of a plate with a built-in Peltier element with the skin.
The main body is designed to cover a wide area from the base of the neck to the area between the shoulder blades, with the plate part slightly bent (in a valley fold) to fit the shape of the human body. Two independent thermo-modules are built into the body, and they are driven by each other to maintain the cool feeling. An ultra-thin fan is mounted at the bottom of the main unit. Air is supplied from the bottom opening and heat is dissipated vertically through the duct (airflow parts) on the top of the unit.
PRO Plus is an updated version of the existing REON POCKET PRO model released in 2025, with up to 20% better cooling performance and a maximum cold zone temperature of -2°C, providing an even cooler feeling even in extremely hot environments such as Japan. It can operate for up to 15 hours at 30°C in the default SMART COOL mode.
The new neckband (RNPB-NP1P) has a larger diameter mechanical flexible tube and an expanded range of motion at the base, resulting in a 40% improvement in retention compared to the previous model. In addition, the airflow part that releases heat inside the body from above has evolved into an adjustable type whose length and angle can be adjusted. The new design is said to aim for optimal performance according to body shape and collar length.
The REON POCKET TAG 2 (RNPT-2), a tag-type sensor that can be attached to bags, belts, ID straps, etc. with the included carabiner, can detect direct sunlight and ambient temperature/humidity and is approximately 18% smaller than the previous model. By linking with a paired main unit, the “SMART COOL ⇔ WARM mode” can be activated to automatically adjust cooling/warming when moving from outdoors in the sun to indoors in an air-conditioned room, for example.
Since the main body part is the same as the existing PRO, it can be modified to the same specifications as the PRO Plus by introducing a new neckband + airflow parts (around 3,300 yen) or a new tag (around 3,850 yen), and updating the REON POCKET application to the latest version.
