About 500 varieties of roses are at their best at “Red Hill Heather Forest” in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture; Rose Festa to be held on 16th and 17th.

Red Hill Heather Forest, a satoyama garden operated by Akatsuka Botanical Garden (2877 Takanoo-cho, Tsu, Mie Prefecture), will hold “Happy Rose Festa” on May 16 and 17 to coincide with the blooming of roses.

The Rose Garden, with more than 1,500 roses of about 500 varieties blooming simultaneously in an area of about 2,500 m2, is planted in nine different themes according to fragrance, color, and variety. New areas such as the “Rose Maze” and “Handicraft Shop Garden,” which were renovated last spring, are now at their best in spring for the first time.

The two-day event will include guided tours of the rose garden by the garden’s staff, a music concert, a marché with booths selling handmade goods at the adjacent “Asatsu Aji” agricultural produce stand, and a playground for children to play.

Visitors can bring lunch boxes and other items purchased at Asatsu Taste into Red Hill Park, so they can enjoy a picnic in conjunction with a stroll through the gardens.

Admission during the event is 1200 yen for adults, 600 yen for junior high and high school students, and free for elementary school students and younger. Hours of operation are from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm.
