Posted on April 28, 2026 by Editor in Chief

East Japan Railway Company and the Shonai region of Yamagata Prefecture have launched a summer tourism campaign entitled “Take a deep breath of your heart. Come on, Shonai! will be launched on July 1.

As part of this program, discount coupons for the JR East View Dynamic Rail Pack, which can be used for travel in the Shonai area (Tsuruoka City, Sakata City, and Tozawa Village), will be distributed on the official reservation website. The coupon offers a 7,000 yen discount for a total trip price of 55,000 yen or more for two or more people for a plan that freely combines train and lodging.

Departures and stays between July 1 and September 30 (except August 10-19) are eligible, and reservations will be accepted starting April 27.

The theme of this year’s campaign is “Yamagata Shonai: A Healing Journey through the Natural Climate, Spiritual Culture, and Food” unique to the Shonai area. The campaign will promote Hakusan Island, a scenic spot in Tsuruoka City; the five-story pagoda at Mount Haguro, a national treasure; “Sakata French cuisine” that makes the most of seasonal ingredients in Shonai; and hot spring resorts scattered in the mountains and by the sea.

Other highlights include the “Tohoku Epson Aquarium Kamosui,” which reopened on April 1 and boasts the world’s largest number of jellyfish on display; the “Mogamigawa River Boat Tour,” where visitors can experience the setting of “Oshin”; the powerful “Aka River Fireworks Display” and “Sakata’s Fireworks 2026. The “Tohoku Epson Aquarium Kamosui” and the “Mogamigawa River Boat Boat Tour” are also highlights of the festival.
