Koji Inoue’s “Railway Travel Tips”] If you want to enter a station, buy an admission ticket.

Posted on April 12, 2026 by Editor in Chief

Admission tickets have a time limit of “two hours from the time of sale. Therefore, you should pay attention to the time printed on the ticket at the time of purchase. If you exceed this time, you must go to a manned ticket window and pay an additional fee to enter. Therefore, the best time to purchase an admission ticket is just before passing through the ticket gate. If you are just using the transportation system, you will probably not have to stay for two hours, but if you are using the stores in the station, it may take longer, so you should be careful.

Hankyu allows free entry and exit within 20 minutes Hankyu Corporation has made it possible to use a transportation system IC card to enter the station from March 18, 2026. Although the process of touching the transportation system IC card to the automatic ticket gate at the ticket gate is the same as usual, if the card is used to exit the station within 20 minutes of entry at the same station, the entry process will be canceled. In other words, within 20 minutes, you can enter and leave the station free of charge. The following are some of the possible uses of the system: “using stores located within the station’s rachis,” “passing through the station,” “picking up and dropping off passengers at platforms,” and “going outside the rachis immediately after entry, such as when one realizes that one has forgotten something. Hankyu Corporation also has paper admission tickets, priced at 170 yen (90 yen for children), with a time limit of two hours. In other words, if you want to leave the station within 20 minutes, you can use a transportation system IC, and if you want to go beyond that, you can use an admission ticket. In fact, JR East introduced the “Touch de Ekinaka” service on March 13, 2021. Unlike Hankyu Railway’s service, the same amount as the admission ticket (160 yen) is deducted when exiting at the same station. The time limit between entry and exit for the “Touch de Ekinaka” service is two hours, the same as for paper admission tickets. In other words, it is positioned as a replacement of the paper admission ticket with a transportation system IC card.
