Posted on April 11, 2026 by Editor in Chief

JR West announced the stations that will begin using platform fences and start construction in FY2026, as well as the stations that will begin using platform safety screens.

The platform fences are scheduled to be in use at eight stops in total at Suita Station and Osaka Station on the JR Kyoto Line, Shin-Mita Station on the JR Takarazuka Line, Tennoji Station on the Osaka Loop Line, and Shin-Fukushima Station on the JR Tozai Line. The construction of all the stations at Suita and Shin-Fukushima is scheduled to be completed in FY2026, and the Suita station is also taking advantage of a subsidy from Suita City.

Construction of platform fences is scheduled to begin at Kyoto Station and Shin-Osaka Station on the JR Kyoto Line, and at all three stations and six platforms at Sumimichi Station on the Gakkentoshi Line.

The platform safety screens are scheduled to be in use at 53 stops at a total of 20 stations: Yasu, Yamazaki, Shijo-Suzuki, Tobu Ichiba-mae, Shin-Nagata, Minami-Kusatsu, Mukoicho, Nozaki, Kansai Airport, Tsuchiyama, Seta, Sanda, Hirano, Shiki, Kakogawa, Ishiyama, Takarazuka, Abiko-cho, Tofukuji and Takaradono.

A platform safety screen is a system that uses sensors mounted on the roof of the platform to detect if a user falls onto the tracks and stops the train.
