Jetstar Airways launches new Boeing 787 aircraft with redesigned interior. First introduction of in-flight Wi-Fi, doubling the number of Business Class seats to 44.

On April 7, Jetstar Airways launched its new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with a redesigned cabin interior. The first flight, JQ17 from Melbourne to Phuket, was almost fully booked.

The renovation includes a complete renewal of both business and economy classes, doubling the number of business class seats from 21 to 44. As a result, the new aircraft will have 44 business class seats and 281 economy class seats. At the same time, a new bidding system upgrade to Business Class was introduced.

Business Class features seats with 38″ seat pitch and 7″ recline angle, leg rests, and a foldable tray table. Economy Class features new RECARO seats, a 6-level adjustable headrest, a mobile device holder, and two USB Type-C ports (up to 60W) that can also charge PCs.

In addition, for the first time on a Boeing 787, the company has introduced in-flight Wi-Fi service. In conjunction with the introduction of this service, the screens installed on the backs of seats will be eliminated, and passengers will be able to use their own smartphones, PCs, and other devices to stream various content. In-flight Wi-Fi will be available for a fee, with access plans such as “Streaming Plus” and “Social Plus” available.

A new crew rest space (crew rest room) with six beds has been built at the rear of the aircraft. This allows crew members to get sufficient rest and enables long-haul flights of up to 16 hours.

The company currently has 11 Boeing 787 aircraft in its fleet and plans to complete the renewal of its entire fleet by late 2027.

Currently, the airline uses Boeing 787 aircraft on its Asian routes, including the Narita/Kansai-Australia route, and expects to further expand its international route network by launching flights to Colombo, Sri Lanka in the future.
