JR East will hold the grand opening of the OIMACHI TRACKS commercial complex in the area adjacent to JR Oimachi Station/Tokyu Oimachi Station on March 28 at 11:00. This report introduces some of the facilities that have been released to the press.
Commercial facility in a good location with 0-minute access from Oimachi Station.
OIMACHI TRACKS is directly connected to Oimachi Station, and a new “TRACKS Exit,” a new ticket gate, will be installed on the JR side of the station, making access much easier. Two high-rise buildings are being constructed, the 26-story OIMACHI TRACKS HOTEL & RESIDENCE TOWER and the 23-story OIMACHI TRACKS BUSINESS TOWER, starting from the one nearest the station.
Located across the street from the building district is TRACKS PARK, which will be opened as a wide-area evacuation site in the event of a disaster. A new Shinagawa Ward government building is under construction on the adjacent land, which will be connected to Oimachi TRAKS by a pedestrian deck in the future.
Each of the lower floors (1-5F) is occupied by “SHOPS & RESTAURANTS” operated by Atre, with 81 stores, including restaurants, general merchandise stores, clinics, and theaters. The distinctive feature of this building is that it is an out-mall type commercial facility. Instead of having stores inside the building, each store is accessed from the street, creating a sense of openness.
Mr. Takao Nakano, Manager of Development Strategy Unit, City Planning Department, JR East, gave an overview of Oimachi Tracks. He explained the origin of the name, “We decided to keep the memory of the rolling stock factory and railroad tracks that have been in existence since the Taisho era in the name of the town,” and also introduced the meaning of the street, including the pedestrian deck that has become the main street within the district.
The difference between Oimachi and Takanawa Gateway City, which will open in the same greater Shinagawa area, is that Takanawa was developed “from scratch,” whereas Oimachi was developed with the concept of “co-creation” to raise the potential of the city while preserving its good qualities. The concept of the development was “co-creation,” which is to preserve the good qualities of the city while enhancing its potential.
He also introduced the company’s efforts in the event of a disaster. He said that in cooperation with Shinagawa Ward, they have established a system to accept 3,000 people who have difficulty returning home indoors for 72 hours in the event of a disaster, and that they have space and stockpiles of supplies.
