Redevelopment of Kongo Station on the Nankai Koya Line to be fully renewed by the end of FY2033. Commercial facilities, bus terminal, etc. to be developed; three public/private parties to sign agreement.

Nankai Electric Railway, Osaka Sayama City, and Tondabayashi City signed a basic agreement on March 30 regarding the Kongo Station Area Redevelopment Project. They agreed to jointly promote the “Kongo Station Area Redevelopment Project” between the public and private sectors.

The number of users of Kongo Station on the Nankai Koya Line, a limited express stop, is the 12th largest among the 105 Nankai Electric Railway stations. It is an important transportation hub in the Osaka Sayama area, with buses departing from the east exit for Kongo New Town and Kongo East New Town, and buses departing from the west exit for Sayama New Town and Senboku New Town (toward Senkaoka Station in Sakai City).

However, the average number of passengers per day has been on a downward trend since its peak in 1995, so the company is promoting integrated redevelopment around the station under the theme of “attractiveness and liveliness that attracts people and expands the area, a lifestyle, interaction, and transportation hub in southern Osaka.

Specifically, the plan has four major components: renovation of the station building, redevelopment of the transportation plaza (bus and cab stands), expansion of the parking lot, and renewal of commercial facilities.

From FY2026 onward, the company plans to begin legal procedures related to urban planning and design of construction work, aiming to open the commercial facility by the end of FY2031 and fully renovate it by the end of FY2033.
