On March 12, JR East announced its plan for the installation of platform doors in FY2026. All 29 stations and 60 lines in the Tokyo metropolitan area will be covered.
All stations on the Chuo and Sobu Lines (local train stations), which are scheduled to begin one-man operation in spring 2027, will be covered by this installation. Home Doors will also be installed at Shinjuku Station. On the Chuo Line (rapid), platform doors will be installed at each station between Nakano and Nishi-Kokubunji and at Ochanomizu Station.
In addition, Hamamatsucho Station has installed platform doors on the Keihin Tohoku Line platforms (Lines 1 and 4) following the Yamanote Line platforms. Platform doors will also be installed on platforms used mainly by first and last trains, and will begin operating at Osaki Station (Lines 2 and 4) on the Yamanote Line and at Kamata Station (Lines 2 and 3) and Higashi Jujo Station (Lines 2 and 3) on the Keihin Tohoku Line.
The company plans to install platform doors at 330 stations and 758 tracks on major conventional lines in the Tokyo metropolitan area by the end of FY2031.
