Tokyo Metro to Introduce Information Terminals Capable of Remote Calls and Payments at All Stations. Aoyama-itchome Station and other stations to begin operation, with multilingual support.

Posted on March 22, 2026 by Editor in Chief

Tokyo Metro, KDDI, and Science Arts will gradually install remote guidance terminals at the ticket gates of all 171 Tokyo Metro stations by the end of March 2028. As the first phase, the terminals were installed at Aoyama 1-chome, Awaji-cho, Nakano-sakaue, and Higashi-ginza stations, and began operation on March 16.

The call function of Science Arts’ Buddycom IP wireless intercom application is incorporated into KDDI’s tablet terminals, allowing users to press a call button and talk to employees in the station office. It also enables IC card/mobile terminal settlement processing, which was not possible with conventional remote guidance via intercom.

In addition, the screen is set at about the same height as the ticket machine (approximately 110 cm from the floor), making it easy to operate even for people in wheelchairs.

In addition, a translation function is available in Japanese, English, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Korean, French, Spanish, Italian, and Russian. The service is designed to meet the increasingly diverse needs of the growing number of inbound tourists.

The size of the terminal is 30 x 35 x 150 cm (W x D x H). The terminals will not be installed at ticket gates of stations outsourced to other companies, elevator-only ticket gates, and some unmanned ticket gates.
