Multifunctional lockers “Multi Ecube” to be installed at Osaka Metro stations; each unit to serve four functions and support advance reservations and shipping

Posted on March 19, 2026 by Editor in Chief

JR East Smart Logistics will install multifunctional lockers called “Multi Ecube” at stations along the Osaka Metro line and begin operating them sequentially from March 19. Fees start at 300 yen, and they support reservations and cashless payment. Payment methods include transportation system IC cards, QR codes, and credit cards.

In addition to luggage storage, MULTI-ECUBE is a “four-in-one” locker that can be reserved in advance, picked up, and shipped. It is also compatible with cashless payment and multilingual support to enhance convenience for tourists and business travelers. The company has already begun to install the MultiEcube lockers mainly at major stations in the Tokyo metropolitan area, and is expanding the area to Tohoku, Kansai, Kyushu, and Hokkaido, with the goal of installing approximately 1,000 units nationwide by the end of FY2026.

Starting with the introduction at five Midosuji Line stations (Esaka, Higashimikuni, Umeda, Tennoji, and Shinsaibashi), the company plans to gradually expand the installation along the line, and in the future will strengthen cooperation with other public transportation and infrastructure providers to promote “empty-handed tourism.
