Metropolitan Expressway traffic restrictions for Tokyo Marathon 2026 on March 1: Entrances and exits blocked on the No. 4 Shinjuku Line, No. 5 Ikebukuro Line, No. 6 Mukojima Line, and the Central Tokyo Loop Line

Posted on February 25, 2026 by Editor in Chief

The Metropolitan Expressway will be closed to vehicular traffic at some entrances and exits due to traffic restrictions associated with the Tokyo Marathon 2026 to be held on March 1.

The Shinjuku Exit (up) and Shinjuku Exit (down) on the No. 4 Shinjuku Line near the starting point will be closed to traffic from around 6:30, as well as the Iidabashi Exit (up) and Nishi-Kanda Exit (down) on the No. 5 Ikebukuro Line and the Hamacho Exit (Hakozaki Rotary) on the No. 6 Mukojima Line.

In addition, the Shiba-Koen Exit (inward) on the Inner Circular Route will be closed all day due to the construction of ETC-only access. Since the Shiba Koen Exit (inner/outer direction) is closed to traffic in the direction of Shimbashi and Hamamatsucho due to traffic restrictions on Hibiya-dori Avenue, drivers are asked to use the Shiodome Exit (inner direction) and the Ginza Exit (outer direction).

The main restricted areas are as follows. Please note that regulation times may change depending on the competition conditions on the day of the event.

Shinjuku Exit (up) and Shinjuku Exit (down) on Route 4 Shinjuku Line: around 6:30 – 10:15

Route 5 Ikebukuro Line Iidabashi Exit (up) and Nishi-Kanda Exit (down): around 8:45 – 11:20 a.m.

Route 6 Mukojima Line, Hamacho Exit (Hakozaki Rotary): approx. 9:00 – 14:35

Shiba Koen Entrance (Inner Circular Route): All day * Due to ETC conversion work
