On February 19, Seibu Railway announced the introduction of the new “Tokyiro” train on its Shinjuku Line. The service will begin in the spring of 2027.
Developed to meet diversifying work styles and mobility needs, this train is the successor to the 10,000 series limited express trains currently in operation. The lightweight aluminum body eliminates the painting process, and together with the VVVF control system, the design reduces the power consumption of the entire train.
Tokiiro” was named after the colors of the sky in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The logo consists of curved lines based on the initial “S” of the Shinjuku Line. The exterior design of the train is based on the theme of “Energy Wave,” with a composition of wave-shaped lines combined with gradations and dot patterns; this is the first time that Seibu Railway has used different color schemes for all eight cars.
The interior of the car has a relaxing red and orange color scheme, with reclining seats and warm-toned lighting. Each seat is equipped with power outlets, cup holders, and hooks, as well as free Wi-Fi and restroom facilities.
