JAL Hometown Ambassadors and Supporters] Nagasaki City Science Museum and JAL will hold a joint planetarium project, “Sky and Star Journey”!

Posted on February 19, 2026 by Editor in Chief

JAL, which has bases throughout Japan, has been continuously implementing regional revitalization initiatives (currently the “JAL Furusato Project”), and in August 2020 launched the “JAL Furusato Ambassadors,” cabin crew members selected through an in-house recruitment process who move to the area to promote initiatives in their respective regions. In December of the same year, JAL appointed “JAL Hometown Cheering Troops” who are involved in regional revitalization while serving on board. The aim is to develop products and solve regional issues for hometowns and other regions with which they have connections, utilizing the knowledge they have accumulated as flight attendants.

We spoke with JAL Furusato Ambassador Shiina Kazuki, who is involved in planetarium events in Nagasaki.

–What can you tell us about your initiatives?

Hello everyone! My name is Kazuki, and I am the JAL Furusato Ambassador for Nagasaki Prefecture. I moved to Nagasaki Prefecture last April and have been working as a JAL Furusato Ambassador.

Now through February 28, Hilton Nagasaki, Nagasaki Science Museum, and Japan Airlines are holding a joint afternoon tea event “Runway to Stars”.

In this issue, we would like to introduce the planetarium event “Sky and Star Journey,” which was jointly planned with Nagasaki City Science Museum. This project was realized based on the common desire of both companies to convey the charm of the sky to as many people as possible.

The story will unfold in the image of the starry sky of Hokkaido, where we landed on the wings of Japan Airlines to “Hokkaido,” a place associated with beautiful starry skies.

By combining the beauty of the sky from different perspectives – the stars of the universe and the sky through which airplanes fly – in a single space, we hope to provide an experience that allows everyone, from children to adults, to experience the mystery of the sky.

–How are you involved in this effort?

I will be hosting the event and providing travel information that will make you want to visit Hokkaido. You will also enjoy a planetarium commentary by the staff in charge of the planetarium at the Nagasaki City Science Museum. I would like to offer my wholehearted support so that all participants can enjoy an inspiring time connecting the mysteries of the starry sky and the world of aviation!

Visitors can also experience the popular “JAL KID’S STUDIO” where they can have their picture taken wearing the uniforms of flight attendants and cabin crew.

–What are your future plans and prospects?

Through this initiative, we hope to contribute to the promotion of tourism and regional revitalization by widely communicating the attractions of the region. We will continue to actively implement hands-on events aimed at revitalizing the region. As JAL hometown ambassadors, we will continue our efforts to disseminate information so that visitors can experience the charms of the region.

–What is your message to travelers?

Please join us with your family and friends for this opportunity to experience “sky travel” that you can usually only feel on airplanes, while staying in Nagasaki! We hope you will experience the fascination of star stories and sky travel in a planetarium world as clear as the starry skies of Hokkaido in winter. We look forward to sharing with you the expansiveness and healing we feel under the stars and the stories of the sky.
