JICA will dispatch an international emergency relief team and medical team to Sri Lanka for cyclone damage on December 3, as follows.

Disaster Situation
From November 28 to 29, a cyclone swept through the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, causing extensive damage from flooding in many areas. According to media reports, as of December 1, 2011, approximately 1.3 million people have been affected, with 334 dead, more than 400 missing, and 108,000 people evacuated, as well as damage to infrastructure and homes. JICA has also decided to provide emergency relief supplies.
Dispatch of International Emergency Relief Teams and Medical Teams
In response to a request from the Sri Lankan government, the Japanese government decided on November 30 to dispatch an international emergency relief team and medical team, and JICA began preparations for dispatching the team. An outline of the team is as follows.
A total of 31 people consisting of Ministry of Foreign Affairs staff, medical team registrants, and JICA staff were dispatched.
Arrangements are being made for departure from Haneda Airport on Wednesday, December 3.
The dispatch period is expected to be two weeks.
