The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced that free viewing of the Ueno Zoo, where the giant pandas “Xiao Xiao” and “Lei Lei” were to be returned, would be suspended after December 16.
Both Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei will be divided into several viewing areas, and visitors will be guided by an attendant to move from one area to another in about one minute. After December 23, visitors will be able to register on the Internet in advance.
First-come, first-served basis for Dec. 23-Jan. 12, 2026; lottery system for Jan. 14-25, 2026, including the last day of viewing.
Xiaoxiao and Leilei are scheduled to return in late January 2026.
