Hiroshima Electric Railway Co. announced that its “Circulation Line” streetcar system will begin service on March 28.
As part of the redevelopment project of the Hiroshima Station South Exit Plaza that has been promoted by the City of Hiroshima and JR West Japan, the Ekimae Ohashi route connecting Hiroshima Station and Hijiyama-cho intersection of streetcars was opened last August. The new line will connect the Hijiyama area with the city center, with two routes: an inward route that starts in front of Hiroden’s headquarters and runs toward Minami-machi 6-chome, and an outward route that runs toward Kamiyacho.
During daytime hours (10:00-16:00) on weekdays and weekends, 15 inner-bound trains and 15 outer-bound trains will run every 25 minutes on weekdays, and 8 inner-bound trains and 8 outer-bound trains every 45 minutes on weekends and weekends. Detailed schedules and system numbers will be announced at a later date.
The new line will improve convenience and circulation for Hiroshima residents and tourists by providing smooth access to the city center. It has been 23 years since Hiroshima Electric Railway established the No. 7 line (Yokogawa Station to Hiroshima Port) in 2003.
