On December 18, Lime, an electric mobility sharing service provider, installed geofencing at 39 entrances and exits to prevent accidental entry to the Metropolitan Expressway.

Geo-fencing is a system that uses GPS and other location data to set up virtual boundaries on a map and automatically decelerate to a safe stop when a vehicle enters an area where driving is prohibited. The system was also introduced at five parks and tourist spots, including the Meiji Jingu Shrine, Yoyogi Park, and the Imperial Palace area.

In November, the company conducted a verification experiment with the cooperation of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and the Metropolitan Expressway, and with the results of this experiment, they “succeeded in improving the accuracy of setting no-driving areas and optimizing the process of updating map information and road structure data”.
