JR East announced the results of “Ekiben Aji no Jinjin 2025,” a ranking project of ekiben bentos voted by users. Voting was accepted from October to November via the website, and 12,776 votes were cast.
A total of 63 items were entered, including items from outside the JR East area. A total of 15 awards have been established, including the “Taste Award,” “Serving Award,” and “Hanging Paper Award” for first and second place in the overall evaluation, as well as the “Area Award” for first place in the overall evaluation by voting item and by area. New awards include the “Ekiben 140th Anniversary Reprint Ekiben Award” for the best overall evaluation of a reprinted ekiben commemorating the 140th anniversary, and the “Ekiben Ichiban Award” based on the number of votes from the English version of the website.
The “Ekiben Daishogun” (general manager of ekiben), which ranked first overall, was the “Shinetsu Line Oginoya 140th Anniversary Commemorative Touge no Kamameshi” (Gunma Prefecture). The second place “Ekiben Vice General” was awarded to “Yamagata Beef Sukiyaki Beef Stack” (Yamagata Prefecture) by Matsukawa Bento.
