Jetstar’s first flight on the Narita-Kaohsiung route! A Port City of Interest in Taiwan, Chairman Abe: “Expanding Travel Options with Low Fares Only Possible with LCCs”.

Posted on February 10, 2026 by Editor in Chief

On this day, a commemorative event was held in front of boarding gate 152 at Narita Airport’s Terminal 3 for the first flight on the Japan side, GK17 departing at 9:25 AM. Jetstar Japan Chairman Takahiro Abe and others gave speeches, and all passengers, including families and seniors, who filled the seats, were given commemorative gifts. On the tarmac, Jetstar employees and airport staff held up a banner and waved off the first flight.

Jetstar Japan launched its Narita-Kaohsiung route on December 18, 2012. This is Jetstar Japan’s first new international flight in eight years and four months, and it is the only Japanese airline to offer nonstop service on this route. The route will be served by an Airbus A320 aircraft (180 seats) with one round-trip flight per day. Combined with the two existing routes (Narita/Kansai-Kansai to Taipei), the company’s Taiwan route network has been expanded to five daily round-trip flights.

Jetstar Narita-Kaohsiung flight schedule (December 18, 2025 – March 28, 2026)

Flight GK17: Narita (09:25) to Kaohsiung (13:00), daily

Flight GK18: Kaohsiung (14:00) to Narita (18:30), daily

One-way fares start at 12,590 yen. The time difference between Japan and Kaohsiung is 1 hour, and flight time is 4 hours 35 minutes from Narita and 3 hours 30 minutes from Kaohsiung. Among the current flights from Narita to Kaohsiung (six airlines in total), GK17 is the earliest flight departing from Narita, and Chairman Abe emphasized, “The flight leaves in the morning and returns in the evening, which is very convenient for Japanese travelers and allows them to spend their time effectively in Kaohsiung.

Kaohsiung is a port city with a population of over 2.7 million people that enjoys a mild and comfortable climate throughout the year. In recent years, Kaohsiung has attracted attention not only for its heavy industry and business, but also for its development as a tourist destination and AI-oriented city that the government is focusing on. The city’s appeal is such that it was voted “the number one city that Taiwanese want to visit in the country for two consecutive years,” and it is said to be vibrant with new cultural exchanges such as fashionable cafes, photogenic art, and music, not to mention historical buildings, scenic spots, and night markets with an abundance of specialty foods and sweets.

Chairman Abe expressed his desire to “lower the hurdles to travel with the low fares that only LCCs can offer, while further expanding travel options while prioritizing safety.
