UNIQLO has “no plans to commercialize” recovery wear; policy revealed at 2026 Spring/Summer exhibition

Posted on February 6, 2026 by Editor in Chief

On February 3, UNIQLO held its 2026 spring/summer collection exhibition in Tokyo. Many people were looking forward to seeing when “recovery wear,” which has become a hot topic in recent years, would be released, and the trend toward its entry into the market has been attracting attention, but no related products were included in this season’s new collection.

When we interviewed Mr. Masami Nakano, head of the Women’s Department of the company’s Global Merchandiser Division, we learned that UNIQLO has no plans to commercialize recovery wear at this time.

Although it has been discussed within the company, after actually trying several other companies’ products, “we did not necessarily feel that it was effective,” he said. He also explained that UNIQLO has no plans to produce recovery wear at this time, given the current situation in which manufacturing can be done only by submitting a notification if certain conditions are met.

Recovery wear, which is said to help the body recover from fatigue just by wearing it, is a field that has been attracting a lot of attention since last year. A number of companies from different industries have entered the market and are competing with each other in terms of price range and design. On the other hand, the effects of the product vary from person to person, and the issue is how to deepen consumer understanding of the product.

UNIQLO has been offering a wide range of high-cost products that can be used for loungewear, pajamas, travel and relaxation, such as “Loungewear” with an emphasis on comfort and design, and “UT” with a relaxed fit. Collaborations with characters such as Sanrio, Disney, and Miffy are also gaining popularity.

Mr. Nakano reiterated UNIQLO’s stance of emphasizing “LifeWear,” the “everyday comfort” that is typical of UNIQLO, saying, “For a comfortable and relaxing time, I would like you to use our lounge wear and UT. I hope you will use the lounge wear and UT that we have already developed for relaxing and spending time in comfort.
