introductory essay
The theme of this study session is “Disability Employment and Inclusion. We will introduce practical examples of inclusive employment in which diverse people work together in an organization, not just welfare employment, and consider how to provide support that makes this possible. The objective is to provide members with perspectives and concrete hints that they can apply to their projects and activities in developing countries.
Professor Takeo Kondo of the University of Tokyo’s Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology will speak on the day and introduce the “Ultra-Short-Time Employment Model. The “Ultra-Short-Time Employment Model” is an employment system that enables people who have difficulty working for long hours due to disabilities or health reasons to work in general companies for extremely short periods of time, ranging from 15 minutes to several hours per week. By clarifying specific duties and creating work opportunities in cooperation with local communities and companies, the model aims to include people who have had difficulty finding work under the conventional system that assumes long working hours.
Next, Ms. Masumi Ohara, Director of the Gifu City Super Short-Time Work Support Center, will introduce the initiatives in Gifu City.
There will be a Q&A session at the end of the session to provide an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas and opinions.
This theme was chosen in response to a survey of our members conducted last year, in which “employment of people with disabilities” was mentioned as a desired theme for a study session. We would like to thank everyone who responded to the survey. We look forward to your participation as an opportunity for cross-disciplinary learning.
You are welcome to bring your family and children to the event. You can leave the microphone on and not worry about your children’s voices. Of course, you can also turn off the microphone and video and just watch. Please feel free to relax and participate at your own pace.
