Posted on February 4, 2026 by Editor in Chief

The Asakusa Police Department will close Kaminarimon-dori and Namiki-dori to vehicular traffic from New Year’s Eve to three days in conjunction with Hatsumode at Senso-ji Temple.

On New Year’s Eve, restrictions will begin at 9:30 p.m. and continue until 4:00 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Thereafter, restrictions will also be in place from 9:30 am to 7:00 pm, and the same will apply on January 2 and 3.

During the regulation period, the Asakusa Kaminarimon, Asakusa Kaminarimon Minami, Asakusa 1-chome, and Asakusa Kotobuki-cho bus stops of Toei Bus and the Riverpia Azumabashi and Asakusa Kaminarimon bus stops of Keisei Bus Tokyo will be suspended (except for some first and last bus routes). The routes in question will be rerouted to Asakusa-dori or shortened to nearby bus stops.

Please note that the restricted area is closed to vehicular traffic and is not treated as a pedestrian street (pedestrian paradise).
