New Kagoshima Main Line station to open in 2027 is named “JR Kaizuka Station. The name of the station, which came in second place in a public contest, was decided in consideration of ease of understanding.

JR Kyushu announced that the name of the new station to be established between Chihaya Station and Hakozaki Station on the Kagoshima Main Line has been decided as “JR Kaizuka Station. The station is scheduled to open in 2027.

Station names were solicited from April to June on the website and by mail. Of the 15,551 applications received, “JR Kaizuka” came in second after “Kaizuka”. The company claims that the station name was chosen to reflect the name of the area and to be easy for users to understand.

The top 30 station names submitted were published, and 46.1% of the entries included “Kaizuka”, including “Shinkaizuka” (No. 3), “Kaizuka Park” (No. 6), and “Chikuzen Kaizuka” (No. 7).

86.2% of the applications were from within Fukuoka Prefecture, and while the majority of applicants were in their 50s, the age range from teens to 60s was almost evenly distributed.
