Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple (1 Narita 1, Narita City, Chiba Prefecture) has released information on its special website for the first visit of 2026.

Naritasan traditionally decorates the halls with shimenawa (sacred ropes), kadomatsu (small pine trees), and other New Year’s decorations until January 28, the first day of the year on which Fudo Myoo (the deity of Fudo) is celebrated. The temple grounds are open all day during the year-end and New Year’s holidays, but the opening and closing times of each hall depend on the time of the goma prayer held in the main hall. On New Year’s Day, the prayer will be held from midnight, and on other days from 6:00 a.m. The closing time varies depending on the day.

Admission may be restricted on New Year’s Eve and Sangatsu (New Year’s Eve) and Sangatsu (New Year’s Eve). From 9:00 p.m. on December 31st to January 31st, traffic regulations will be enforced mainly along Omotesando from Narita Station and Keisei Narita Station. For details, please refer to the access information provided by Naritasan Shinshoji Temple.

The peak crowds are expected to be around midnight on New Year’s Day and from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the first three days of the year. However, Naritasan has set January 28, as mentioned above, as the peak time for Hatsumode, and encourages visitors to make their pilgrimage by the end of January.
