Grant Aid Agreement Signed for Kyrgyzstan: Contribution to Ensuring and Facilitating Stable Local Logistics through the Naryn River Bridge Replacement | News & PR

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the government of the Kyrgyz Republic on December 12 in Bishkek, the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic, for the “Bishkek-Osh Road Narin River Bridge Replacement Project to Improve Connectivity with the Caspian Sea Route. Agreement (G/A) for the “Bishkek-Osh Road Naryn River Bridge Replacement Project to Improve Connectivity of the Caspian Sea Route. The G/A was signed on the day between Mr. Almaz Baketayev, Minister of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Mr. Kotaro Nishigata, Director of JICA Kyrgyzstan Office.

This project is associated with the “CA+JAD Tokyo Initiative” declared at the “Central Asia + Japan” Dialogue (CA+JAD/Kajad) and Summit Meeting in December 2025, and is positioned as part of the “Strengthening Connectivity including Support for Facilitation of the Caspian Sea Route”. It will contribute to the stabilization and sustainable development of the Central Asian region, an important partner of Japan in maintaining and strengthening the international order based on the rule of law.

Business Objectives

This project aims to ensure safe and stable transportation and traffic on the Bishkek-Osh road, an international trunk road connecting the northern and southern regions of Kyrgyzstan with the Caspian Sea route, by replacing the Narin Bridge located in Jalalabad Oblast, thereby contributing to the facilitation of stable logistics in Kyrgyzstan. The project is to be carried out by replacing the Narin Bridge in Jalalabad Oblast.

Business

(1) Description of facilities and equipment:

Construction of a new bridge and a connecting road from the current road to the bridge.

(2) Consulting services include: detailed design, bidding assistance, construction supervision

Maximum Amount of Provision

3.19 billion yen

Scheduled implementation period

57 months (construction of the facility is scheduled to be completed in 44 months, including the detailed design and bidding period and a one-year defect period after the delivery of the equipment)
