JAL expands its routes to India, a fast-growing economy, with the opening of the Narita – Delhi route. President Tottori says he “felt the energy firsthand” during his most recent visit to India.

JAL launched the Narita – Delhi, India route on January 17.

The company’s India route has been in operation for 60 years since May 1965, when it began scheduled service to Delhi (initially a southbound route to Europe via multiple destinations). The Narita-Delhi route was transferred to Haneda on March 29, 2020, and again today, with the opening of the Narita-Delhi route.

With this expansion, JAL’s India service has increased to a total of six flights between Haneda and Narita on the Delhi route and Narita – Bengaluru route.

The aircraft is a 206-seat Boeing 787-8 (30 business class and 176 economy class seats). The first flight had a 98% occupancy rate, and the reservation rate has been as high as approximately 80% throughout January.

JAL currently operates seven routes from Narita to North America, and including the Dallas route operated by American Airlines, with which it has a partnership, JAL has a total of eight routes in its North American network. The Delhi route is scheduled to connect to all of these routes, which the airline describes as “a setup that maximizes the convenience of connecting flights. The company also notes that approximately 50% of the passengers on the Delhi route will be connecting passengers from North America to Narita and Delhi.
