Hokkaido Shinkansen cancels last train on Sundays from May to July. Due to the renewal of equipment in the Seikan Tunnel.

Posted on February 2, 2026 by Editor in Chief

JR Hokkaido will suspend the last train of the Hokkaido Shinkansen Line from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station on Sundays from May 10 to July 26. This is due to the renewal of facilities on the section of the line that is in service with the conventional lines, including the Seikan Tunnel.

On the down train (arriving at Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto), the Hayabusa No. 39, which started at Tokyo Station, will stop at Shin-Aomori Station, and service will be suspended for a section from Shin-Aomori Station onward. For the up train (departing Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto), the “Hayate No. 100” bound for Shin-Aomori will be suspended for its entire route.

One overhead line that supplies power to trains and locomotives is approximately 1.5 km long, and the replacement will require a significant expansion of maintenance work hours.
