The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the government of the Arab Republic of Egypt on December 28 in Cairo, the capital of the Arab Republic of Egypt, for the “Construction Project of a Submersible Support Vessel”. The G/A was signed between Mr. Ahmed Gad Abdo Elbarbary, Director General of the Suez Canal Authority of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Mr. Atsushi Yamamoto, Deputy Director General of the JICA Egypt Office.

This project will contribute to the sustainable and stable operation of the Suez Canal through the construction of a submersible support vessel equipped with a decompression chamber and other equipment. By improving the safety of the Suez Canal, which is a strategic point for international logistics, this project is expected to contribute to the reduction of transportation costs for Japanese companies and the stabilization of supply chains.
