On January 9, Fujiya announced its first new character in about 30 years. The new character will debut in January as “Peko-chan, Poko-chan, and their cheerful friends,” adding “Neko-chan,” “Usagi-chan,” “Kotori-chan,” “Ham-o,” and “Kamekichi” animals to the existing “Dog” character.
On January 23, six types of “Stationery Mesh Pouches” with new character designs will go on sale in advance at “Peko-chan’s Chocolate Kingdom” at the Keio Department Store Shinjuku branch (1-1-4, Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo). The pouches are easy to use in daily life, with each character’s badge, and are recommended as gifts as well as for oneself. The size is approximately 150 x 100 mm (width x length). Each is priced at 660 yen.
Peko-chan made her debut in 1950 as a store doll at the Fujiya confectionery store. The following year, she and her boyfriend Poco appeared together on a “Milky” package, and in 1995, Dog was born as a puppy of the two and their good friend, an adult dog. In the future, the company plans to release a series of “Peko-chan, Poco and Friends” products and goods featuring new characters.
