Posted on February 2, 2026 by Editor in Chief

Rook Holdings has announced the opening of the Marimekko Exhibition, a traveling exhibition that allows visitors to experience the world of the Finnish design house Marimekko.

Starting in the summer of 2026 at the Kyoto Culture Museum, the exhibition will tour Tokyo, Hiroshima, Kitakyushu, Toyama, Nagoya, Nagasaki, and other cities in Japan. The exhibition will be held under the auspices of the host museums and other organizations.

Since its establishment in 1951, Marimekko has been developing items that add color to everyday life. The brand has created more than 3,500 unique print designs, including the iconic “Unikko” (poppy flower in Finnish), which has been loved in Japan for generations.

The exhibition, the first in 10 years, will explore the appeal of Marimekko’s aesthetics, printmaking techniques, and traditions through dresses, artwork, and fabrics from various periods, using the words of the company’s founder, Almi Ratia, as a guide.

In addition, with the special cooperation of Marimekko in its home country and the Helsinki Museum of Architecture & Design, valuable works and materials from the museum’s collection will be on display, and a video produced especially for this exhibition will be shown. Collaboration with Japanese artists is also planned.

The most recent schedule is as follows. Other details, including tickets, will be announced on the official website.

The Museum of Kyoto: July 4 – September 6, 2026

Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum: October 3 – December 20, 2026

Hiroshima Museum of Art: January – March 2027

*Subsequent tours will be held in Kitakyushu, Toyama, Nagoya, Nagasaki, and other cities.
