On March 1, a major detour is required to cross Chuo-dori Avenue. East-West shuttle bus service from Akihabara and Suehirocho Stations due to the Tokyo Marathon

Posted on February 1, 2026 by Editor in Chief

The Tokyo Marathon Foundation will operate a shuttle bus service connecting the east and west sides of Chuo-dori Avenue in conjunction with traffic restrictions due to the Tokyo Marathon 2026 to be held on March 1. Use of the shuttle bus is free of charge.

On the day of the event, from around 8:50 to 11:55, crossing will be impossible south of Ueno-Hirokoji on Chuo-dori. In particular, there are no pedestrian bridges or underground crossings along the 1.5 km route to Kanda Station, and Suehirocho Station on the way to Kanda Station has a structure that does not allow crossing from east to west without passing through the ticket gates.

For this reason, two shuttle bus routes will be operated, one near the Bansebashi bus stop, the other at the Electric Town Exit of Akihabara Station, and the other on Kuramae-bashi Dori east and west of Suehirocho Station. Both routes connect east and west in an inverted U-shape, passing near Ueno-Hirokoji Station, and take approximately 20 to 25 minutes.
